ATLANTA, GA – Atlanta, Georgia’s third annual Olmsted Plein Air Invitational is proudly presented by the Organizing Committee. artGuide art news blog presents the scholarship and educational outreach program information in more detail.
The third annual Olmsted Plein Air Invitational takes place in Atlanta April 2-9, 2017. Learn more at OlmstedPleinAir.com.
Education is the Mission of the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational
Hosting world-class plein air artists provides a great opportunity to introduce and educate the larger Atlanta community to contemporary, impressionist, landscape plein air painting.
Painting directly in nature brings a greater awareness of both the overall landscape and poignant vignettes within our beautiful city. Familiar yet undiscovered Atlanta is viewed through a master painter’s eyes. Olmsted Plein Air provides an opportunity to collect one-of-a-kind masterpieces painted by living artists that will accrue in value. Each plein air painting is framed, and some have won recognition, awarded by knowledgeable judges. Of course, individual works of art of this caliber are a giant step above mass-produced art prints or duplicates offered for sale by too many shops with limited imagination.
Scholarships for High School and College Art Students
Olmsted Plein Air encourages young, aspiring artists to learn more about plein air painting through actual participation. The Olmsted Plein Air Student Outreach Program directly engages students during our Paint Quick competition (Sunday, April 9 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.), and targets art students in grades 9 through 12 along with college art students. The program offers each student the opportunity to paint alongside our invited master painters and includes registration and art materials needed to complete their Paint Quick entry from corporate sponsor Binders Art Supply.
Scholarship recipients receive a package containing paints, brushes, art boards, cleaning supplied and other goodies – a package valued at $250+ per scholarship. A huge “Thank You” goes to Binders Art Supply for their sponsorship of the 2017 scholarship program.
To apply, art students must complete and then submit an application, with support from an art teacher or school administration. They also must demonstrate basic knowledge of plein air painting and the event’s namesake, Frederick Law Olmsted.
