DARKROOM Benefit Auction on February 28, 2019 for the Museum of Contemporary Photography

Artist Lalla Essaydi to be honored

Chicago — DARKROOM is the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago's (MoCP) annual benefit auction. This year's event, co-chaired by Ted Keim and Marisa Murillo, with honorary co-chairs Bill and Vicki Hood, will take place on Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 6:30-9 p.m. at Venue Six10, with a VIP Reception from 5:30-6:30 p.m. preceding the event. Photography enthusiasts will enjoy hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and music while perusing auction items by celebrated contemporary artists, including work by Shimon Attie, Dionisio González, An-My Lê, Vera Lutter, and more. All proceeds raised at this event will support essential MoCP exhibition and education programs in 2019

This year, the MoCP is pleased to present the seventh annual Silver Camera Award to Lalla Essaydi. The Silver Camera Award honors those who have made significant contributions to the medium of photography. Lalla Essaydi is a Moroccan photographer and painter whose work appropriates the distorted lens of Orientalism in order to explore the complexity of Arab female identity. In doing so, her work invites viewers to combat stereotypes. Essaydi also works in other media, such as video, film, and installation. Essaydi’s work is represented in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery of Art, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Louvre Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography, among others. The most recent solo publication of her work, Lalla Essaydi: Crossing Boundaries, Bridging Cultures, was published in 2015 by ACR Edition.

Tickets to DARKROOM start at $150 for individuals and $300 for VIP Tickets. Visit mocp.org for more information.
