Peggy Vineyard discusses her works with artGuide
artGuide art news blog monthly editorial theme was floral for May. Wilmington artist, Peggy Vineyard has always found time to creatively express herself whether it be in her free time or teaching classes. After her move back to North Carolina, Peggy lets the her paintings reflect the love she has for nature.
Peggy was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Her family moved many times, so she has lived in many cities in the United States when she was growing up, but graduated from high school in East Lansing, Michigan, where her love for Art really grew. Peggy's family moved to Houston in 1955 where she started University of Houston in the Design Department (which was then under the Home Economics Department). She ultimately got a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Art then several years later a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling. After college, Peggy taught school and art in the summers to all grades. She wrote an Elementary Art Curriculum Guide for the school district and was very involved in the Rodeo Art program.
After teaching and counseling children, Peggy made a career change in 1980. She went into real estate and have had great success as a sales associate for 29 years with Martha Turner Properties. She is blessed with a high energy level which allows me to balance a busy real estate career which she love, along with her passion for painting and creating art. Peggy is married to businessman, Jim Pruitt, and together they have four children and 10 grandchildren. After 57 years in Houston, Texas, she moved to Wilmington, North Carolina.
Art has always been an important part of her life, from childhood until now. Even though she has had other careers, she has always left time to express herself creatively. The pictures of her paintings are mixed media of watercolor, pencil acrylic and collage. They reflect her love of nature in representational work as well as experimentation with abstract shapes with varied colors, form, line and design. It is extremely satisfying to be able to create, and she is pleased to share her work with you!
